It was recently reported that some hotels in part of Spain, including the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands, are cheaper than similar properties in Turkey and other rival destinations for the first time in approximately 5 years.
Ignacio Vasallo - director of the Spanish Tourist Office - said that a combination of a weakening euro and a strengthening Turkish lira had prompted a shift in pricing.
Combined with discounts currently being offered by hoteliers means many hotels in Spain are now more affordable than in Turkey.
Corona Holidays keep a close eye on the exchange rate and visitors to Spain are receiving more euros for their pound this summer than in 2009 which is good news for people wishing to take their Canary Island holiday or Balearic Island holiday this year. They also state that they had seen a marked decrease in the number of booking to Turkey for the first part of 2010 with euro destinations becoming more popular again.
