Those wanting to bag a bargain for a Canary Island holiday to a popular destination such as Gran Canaria might be best booking soon, as January is the cheapest time to book a holiday, one travel expert states.
According to Nick Trend, writing for the Telgraph, the reason why holidays are cheaper at this time of year is because many Brits spend a lot over the festive season and then cannot afford to splash out on a break straight afterwards.
He suggests that for the next three weeks the cost of holidays will be at their absolute lowest.
Mr Trend goes on to give travellers advice on how to ensure they get the best value for money.
"If you have school-age children, book as soon as possible," he states.
"This is particularly pertinent if you need to book flights, package holidays or holiday cottages in popular locations."
Statistics for travel in 2010 look positive, with 71 per cent of respondents in a study by Hotels.com stating that they plan on having a long summer holiday.
