It has been reported that a team of scientists from the Canary Islands - the University of La Laguna and Las Palmas have discovered examples of Millepora in Tenerife waters.
This coral would normally be found no further north that the Cape Verde islands and that its arrival in Tenerife would appear to be as a result of the increase in temperatures in the Canary Islands. Despite the Canary Islands being on the edge of the tropics, the waters are usually relatively cold.
However, the islands provide very attractive diving grounds and beginners can gain experience whilst the more adventurous can explore caves off la Palma, El Hierro and Gran Canaria as well as the coral reefs near Lanzarote. You will find the water at its clearest between the months of November and February.
