The online travel market is becoming increasingly dominated by older holidaymakers, it has been claimed.
According to New Media Trend Watch, an online market intelligence service, there has been a significant rise in the number of over-55s booking their holidays to
Tenerife and other destinations via the internet.
Carmel Dennis, a project manager at the organisation, commented: "This generation are familiar with the internet from their workplaces and also may have the freedom to book more last-minute short breaks online."
She added that the internet provides plenty of opportunities for people to snap up bargain deals and take advantage of last-minute offers.
Women are traditionally the key decision makers when it comes to family holidays and are more likely to make bookings than their male counterparts, Ms Dennis furthered.
Meanwhile, figures from the Post Office revealed recently that Spanish destinations such as the
Canary Islands are among the cheapest places for British holidaymakers to travel to.
