Millions of British parents would consider taking their child out of school for a holiday, it has been found.
A poll carried out by breakfast programme GMTV found that the majority (82 per cent) of mums and dads would be prepared to take a term-time holiday to the
Canary Islands or elsewhere to save money.
Research also revealed that many families are waiting until September or October before jetting off.
Government figures showed that 397,851 pupils were absent from school without permission between September and December of last year, representing an increase of 20,500 compared to 2006.
A recent study by financial provider HSBC found that 90 per cent of parents want their children to travel overseas and learn about different cultures.
Of those surveyed, 21 per cent said mixing with people of other nationalities is an important part of a child's education.
