Travel review sites resonate with 21st century travellers because they provide such a wealth of up-to-date information and are easily accessible to them, it has been claimed.
Amelie Hurst, a spokesperson for online community TripAdvisor, said holidaymakers can use such sites to access updates on a daily basis and claimed they offer real transparency to those jetting off on holiday to the
Canary Islands and other popular destinations.
"For example, while the average guidebook takes 15 months from manuscript submission to hitting the shelf, TripAdvisor posts 18 new contributions every minute," she explained.
Reviews are important to holidaymakers because travel is often expensive and people cannot afford to be disappointed or for their trip to go wrong, Ms Hurst added.
Meanwhile, a recent poll by Frommer's Unlimited found that half of travellers have struggled to find information about their destinations, while four in ten holidaymakers have come across websites providing inaccurate details.
