A travel industry insider has pointed out that booking flights independently straight from an airline may leave consumers open to risks if that company goes bankrupt.
These concerns will not normally be a problem for travellers who book all inclusive holidays, since they will be insured if an airline goes out of business.
Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for Abta - The Travel Association, pointed out that there is currently no legislation regarding bookings made independently.
She made her comments following the merger of British Airways and Iberia, which is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
Ms Tuke explained: "Airlines do not financially protect customers who book with them directly, which is something which has existed for quite some time."
So, travellers heading out on their luxury holidays to
Fuerteventura may want to consider booking a package deal, as it gives them added protection.
Last week, global travel and tourism manager Euromonitor International Caroline Bremner pointed out that another advantage of all inclusive holidays is that people are able to budget for them more easily.
