Despite the sun-soaked beaches and exciting activities on offer in destinations such as
Tenerife and
Lanzarote, the majority of British holidaymakers still miss things from home, a new survey has revealed.
Research carried out by travel site Trivago found that 41 per cent of holidaymakers miss their own beds when travelling abroad, while six per cent long to tune into British soaps and TV programmes.
However, where food and drink is concerned, holidaymakers aren't quite so fussy and seem happy to sample local cuisine.
Of those polled, just four per cent said they miss visiting the pub at home, while three per cent feel the same way about British food.
In related news, flight search engine Skyscanner revealed earlier this week that British people are becoming more flexible when it comes to booking holidays to the
Canary Islands and other destinations.
Barry Smith, the site's director and co-founder, said the recession had turned the UK into a nation of "bargain hunters" and "adventurers".
