Britons taking holidays to
Gran Canaria and
Fuerteventura this year have been advised to spend a little longer packing.
A survey carried out by financial services provider Abbey found that British holidaymakers spend £1 billion replacing forgotten items every year.
Of those polled, 65 per cent said they could not live without their camera on holiday, while 56 per cent said sunglasses are their most essential item.
In total, 65 per cent of Brits admitted they had to replace at least one important object last summer, with nine per cent forgetting their mobile phone and seven per cent leaving their contact lenses behind.
Callum Gibson, head of credit cards at Abbey, said holidaymakers should spend a few extra minutes checking they have everything they need.
"Holiday packing often falls to the last minute because of more pressing pre-holiday tasks, making it only too easy to inadvertently leave essential items at home," he added.
Meanwhile, those jetting off to the
Canary Islands this summer may be interested to learn that the pound reached a seven-month high against the euro last week.
