The cruise holiday market in places such as the
Canary Islands has become "more diverse", according to one industry expert.
Stephen Park, UK general manager for Norwegian Cruise Line, suggests that thanks to this a wider range of people are going on cruising holidays that visit places such as
Fuerteventura.
He goes on to add that the cruising market has expanded very quickly in 2009, with more families and young couples choosing to take a holiday at sea.
Mr Park says: "There was a pent up demand for a more flexible, casual approach to cruising."
Bill Gibbons, director of the Passenger Shipping Association, predicts that a record 1.65 million UK passengers will choose a cruise in 2010.
This is an increase of 6.5 per cent from 2009, which he puts down to added value and variety.
In 2010, a total of 16 new ships are set to be launched on the cruising market.
