The
Canary Islands are the top destination for holidaymakers who are seeking a spot of winter sun, one publication has suggested.
According to the Evening Chronicle, islands such as
Tenerife and
Gran Canaria are "age-old popular winter destinations" and they could provide a good opportunity for people who missed out on a summer holiday due to the recession to catch some rays.
"Each [of the islands] has its own diverse landscape, from mountain peaks, sub-tropical flora and giant sand dunes to lush pine forests, endless beaches and cosy coves," the publication states.
Papagayo beach on the southern tip of
Lanzarote is recommended for enjoying fantastic weather year-round, as well as being the most beautiful part of the island.
For those who love watersports,
Fuerteventura is suggested for its warm sahara breeze and some of the finest beaches in Europe.
The Canary Islands were the most popular search for people who were browsing for holidays over Christmas, according to TravelSupermarket.
