Fuerteventura could be the recipient of a Guinness World Record following a recent event in the island's capital
Puerto del Rosario.
Over 70 puppets with giant heads made from papier mache took to the streets as part of the traditional Papaguevos festival, with crowds of local residents and people on Canary Island holidays enjoying the spectacle, Island Connections reports.
The local authority believes that this year's event could set a new world record due to the large number of people involved.
According to the website, Papaguevos is thought to have its origins in Portugal and arrived in the
Canary Islands in the 18th century.
The papier mache puppets come in all shapes and sizes and depict various celebrities, cartoon characters and local politicians.
Giant cartoon heads also made an appearance on
Tenerife recently, with the regional government's 'family mascots' appearing at the island's Piramides de
Guimar visitor park, Island Connections reports.
