Anyone who thinks all of the
Canary Islands are the same should think again, according to one tour guide.
Speaking recently, Andreas Caliman, one of seven official tour guides on
Fuerteventura, suggested that all of the
Canary Islands have their own identities, with some more developed than others.
Commenting on the qualities that set
Fuerteventura apart from the other islands, Mr Caliman said: "Well, first of all, tourism is not as developed as it is on the main islands because their tourism started in the 1950s, here it started about 20 years later. That's why they still promote the island as 'La Isla Tranquilita', which means the quiet, the tranquil island."
Describing the island as "very quiet" and "chilled out", Mr Caliman said that as well as the tranquil atmosphere, holidaymakers were attracted by sun-soaked beaches and the fact that the island basks in sunshine for over 3,000 hours every year.
According to
Fuerteventura.com, weather conditions on the island are similar to Florida and Mexico and some of the most popular attractions include the Isla de Lobos and the America Star shipwreck.
