Conservationists and animal lovers on
Fuerteventura are over the moon, as the first loggerhead turtles of the year have been born at Turtle Camp.
When people are on their Canary Island holidays, they can count on seeing an incredible array of animals and birds out in the wild and in parks such as
Tenerife's Loro Parque.
However, on Fuerteventura, scientists at Turtle Camp have been overjoyed to see 46 loggerhead turtles hatching on a beach in Nuevo Horizonte and they are confident that the ten nests will continue to produce more of the little creatures, reports Sunny Fuerteventura.
The website stated that the nests had been put on the beach as part of a reintroduction project for the species organised by the island's Cabildo.
Last week, Queen Sofia of Spain attended the release of 22 baby loggerhead turtles on the same beach, which was a separate stage of the same project.
