British people still consider their annual holidays to be one of their top priorities, it has been revealed.
In a recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers, consumers picked holidays as one of their top spending priorities, alongside buying a car, eating out and home improvements.
Of those surveyed, 16 per cent said that travelling abroad regularly was their number one spending priority, Travel Trade Gazette reports.
Commenting on the findings, Malcolm Preston, head of travel at the company, said: "These results show the UK consumer is still set on escaping the recession depression and refuses to sacrifice the summer or family holiday."
Furthermore, the figures suggested that consumers rate week-long breaks to popular destinations such as the
Canary Islands more highly than weekend city breaks.
A recent survey carried out by Cruise118 found that the majority of Britons would rather give up gym memberships and take packed lunches to work than sacrifice their annual holidays.
