According to the Telegraph, those thinking of hiring a car on holiday should book their vehicle online before travelling, rather than waiting until they reach their destination.
Taking out extra insurance cover on hire cars is also advisable for those who do not want to be faced with a hefty repair bill in the event of an accident.
Holidaymakers are also advised to contact their mobile phone providers before travelling and find out what roaming options and packages are available to them.
"The cheapest is from Vodaphone. This summer it is running a special promotion on its 'Passport' scheme - so those asking for this option pay just British call charges," the Telegraph noted.
