The response that Monarch Airlines has got from increasing its flights to the
Canary Islands has been brilliant, according to a company representative.
Liz Savage, Monarch's director of flights and holidays, pointed out that there seems to be a trend developing, with travellers favouring mid-haul destinations for their 5 star holidays.
She claimed that in September the airline carried 61 per cent more customers to
Lanzarote than in the same month last year.
This week, Monarch began new flights to
Fuerteventura and
Gran Canaria, which has proved to be a success story in terms of popularity.
"We have been overwhelmed with how well these new services have been received, with 35,000 advanced bookings already taken," said Ms Savage.
Flights to Fuerteventura depart from Birmingham, London Gatwick, Luton and Manchester.
Fuerteventura's cabildo recently announced that it will be investing more than 200,000 (£180,000) in preserving parts of the heritage of the tiny neighbouring island of Los Lobos.
