Preparing for a holiday properly makes the whole experience more enjoyable, it has been suggested.
Writing in the Irish Times, Sylvia Thompson said people should prioritise their workload before jetting abroad and be careful not to "overdo it" or worry about minor problems.
Holidaymakers are advised to start planning a few weeks prior to their departure and make a list of what needs to be done.
"A little bit of last minute shopping can be fun but try to avoid searching for the ideal summer dress or casual jacket - that's exactly the sort of thing you're more likely to find at your holiday destination," she commented.
Researching and gathering information about your destination can be useful and help to get you in the holiday mood, Ms Thompson added.
Other top tips include laying everything out a bed before packing and maintaining a regular sleep pattern.
A recent study by Abbey found that British holidaymakers spend more than £1 billion every year replacing items they have left at home.
