Fuerteventura may be interested to know that one of its major towns is going to receive a significant investment from the island's cabildo.
While most travellers will associate this winter sun destination with relaxation and luxury holidays, this is an important event for residents as it will improve their day to day lives.
Puerto del Rosario is set to have more than 1.3 million (£1.17 million) invested in it to develop an irrigation network between Barranco de la Herradura and Guisguey, reports Sunny Fuerteventura.
Natalia Evora, the head of the ministry of environment, agriculture, livestock and fisheries at the cabildo, told the website that she hopes to extend the irrigation network if this project is completed successfully.
"Now is the time to go a step further and capitalise on the water purified for agricultural use, drawing also on the availability of the treatment plant in Puerto del Rosario," she explained to Sunny Fuerteventura.
Last month, the website reported that the cabildo had decided to invest more than 200,000 in restoring areas of the neighbouring island of Los Lobos.
