Holidaymakers travelling to
Fuerteventura may see something other than sunshine in the skies this month.
A flock of white storks have decided to make the sun-soaked island their home for the winter instead of migrating to Africa, News in the Sun reports.
The Spanish Ornithological Society said the presence of the birds is extremely rare and they are only usually sighted between February and July.
It is believed the birds may have made the island their temporary home due to the availability of food.
Earlier this week
Fuerteventura was described as an "addictive" destination by the Canary Island News and an ideal place for nature lovers.
"With its quiet and laid-back atmosphere, it is just the perfect getaway from the economic doom and gloom where, for a week or so at least, you can put aside your worries," the publication states.
