Many people are now finding themselves in a "better financial position", which has caused a rise in the number of consumers booking holidays to the Canary Islands, the results of a new survey reveal.
Sunshine.co.uk reports that there has been a huge increase in bookings to the Canary Islands, equating to a 67 per cent rise in the number of holidays that have been reserved with the company, compared to the same time last year.
Chris Brown, co-founder of the site, believes that this is due to the economy picking up, coupled with the miserable weather that is currently affecting the UK.
He says that some 83 per cent of people state that they are in a better financial position this year than last, making booking a holiday more of a priority, while two in three people suggest that escaping the cold is their main reason for wanting a spot of winter sun.
"The desire to get away for a week or two to somewhere sunny has definitely been heightened by the snow that the UK is experiencing," comments Mr Brown.
According to OnTheBeach, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife are set to be particularly popular destinations in for 2010 travel.
