The
Canary Islands in particular
Tenerife,
La Palma,
La Gomera and
Gran Canaria have been described as an ideal holiday destination for "serious walkers".
Writing in the Financial Times, Michael Holroyd suggested that
La Gomera has an appealing and lush landscape and claimed that walkers will find themselves enveloped in "peace and quiet".
Even on the busiest of the
Canary Islands, remote walking trails are plentiful, he writes adding that even the island of
Lanzarote, with its volcanic landscape has areas which are appealing to walkers.
According to walkingdeamon.co.uk, the best time to take a walking holiday in the
Canary Islands is between the months of September and June, when the weather is warm and not sweltering.
The island of
La Gomera is said to have "unbeatable" natural landscapes and something to offer walkers of all abilities.
La Palma is also highly recommended by the site, particularly the central area, which boasts "ancient volcanic formations on a giant scale".
