La Gomera has much more to offer those on luxury holidays than a pleasant view and a relaxing swim in the sea it also has the potential to impress even the fussiest of food connoisseurs.
This is according to journalist Christian Williams, who states in the Independent that the sun-kissed Canary Island is capable of serving up gastronomical treats fit for a king.
Coastal areas present some wonderful seafood, while the restaurants in La Gomera's major town of San Sebastian offer up the unmissable dish of cazuela, a slow-cooking herb-based stew, the writer explains.
Those looking to go local with their diets should sample gofio, Mr Williams adds, which is "wheat, maize or barley flour that's been in the Canarian diet since before the Spanish conquest".
Cress soup, chicken, goat and rabbit are also common staples on the island, he continues, as is the "chunky stew" rancho canario.
"Elsewhere these meats are enhanced by rich, tangy and often garlicky sauces," the writer advises.
These recommendations come after David Henderson, a spokesperson for the Association of European Airlines, said that 5 star holidays to the
Canary Islands may be cheaper after the Christmas rush.
