An Irish rower is set to begin his 100-day Atlantic crossing from the pier at
La Gomera.
Sean McGowan arrived in La Gomera over the weekend and will begin his 5,000km row on December 6th, according to the Irish Times
He will be the first Irishman to attempt the crossing alone and will have to do so on just five hours sleep per night and with a daily energy output of 12,000 calories.
Mr McGowan said: "Everybody has their challenge in life. Mine is the Atlantic."
The boat is designed to automatically correct itself if overturned by a wave and Mr McGowan will be constantly attached with an ankle strap.
John Fairfax was the first solo rower to cross the Atlantic in 1969, which took 180 days.
Sailing holidays based in La Gomera can offer tourists the chance to experience great sailing, while seeing beautiful scenery and eating wonderful food, according to Canary Sail.
