British holidaymakers are collectively spending more than £382 million on breaks funded by redundancy packages, it has been revealed.
Research carried out by Ebookers shows that one in five (19 per cent) of those who have lost their jobs are planning to jet off to warmer climes.
Furthermore, 18 per cent of those polled are using their redundancy settlements to treat the whole family to a holiday.
Those under the age of 25 are the most likely to throw caution to the wind and escape the UK, the poll revealed.
Claire Howard-Jones, head of marketing at the site, said it is pleasing to see that people are using the credit crunch as an opportunity to see more of the world.
"What's more, with some fantastic deals at the minute, it is even easier for travellers to head off and experience great destinations at a lower cost," she added.
In related news, a study carried out by Travelzoo found that the majority of British holidaymakers are not concerned about the threat of swine flu and do not plan to alter their travel arrangements due to the pandemic.
