If you are on your La Palma holiday in the between 30 May and 6 June you will be fortunate in being able to witness Corpus Christi which celebrates the transformation of bread and wine into the body of Christ. Head to Villa de Mazo [located on the eastern side of the island of La Palma about 4km south of the capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma] which is the only place in the Canary Islands where Corpus Christi is celebrated not only by means of colourful flower carpets but also by fascinating arches which are several metres high.
The night before Corpus, the inhabitants of the 14 districts place arches, carpets and tapestries on the steep cobbled streets of Villa de Mazo and the procession marches around them.
This is probably one of the most beautiful fiestas on La Palma and the processesion comprises fireworks, music and dancing.
