The majority of British parents are in favour of taking term-time holidays, according to new research.
A study carried out by Skyscanner found that 66 per cent of mums and dads would allow their children to miss school if it meant securing a cheap travel deal.
Just 31 per cent said they would wait until the official school holidays before jetting to the
Canary Islands or elsewhere.
David Parsons, a father of two from Edinburgh, said term-time is the only part of the year when he can afford to book a holiday.
"I don't think it has any detrimental effect on my children's education; they can easily catch up on what they've missed when they get back," he added.
Barry Smith, a spokesman for Skyscanner, said the economic downturn may be another reason why so many parents are in favour of term-time breaks.
Meanwhile, figures published by Visa Europe recently revealed that an increasing number of people are opting to take frequent short breaks rather than one long annual holiday.
