Those jetting off to destinations such as
Lanzarote and
Tenerife are no longer relying only on travel guides and TV programmes for information about their destination, it has been found.
Reserch undertaken by Visa revealed that one in three (34 per cent) holidaymakers consult blogs for handy hints and travel tips.
A further 24 per cent said they turn to family and friends for destination information.
Just 13 per cent ask their travel agent for advice when planning a trip.
Of those surveyed, 44 per cent said they look their destination up online, using search engines to find relevant information.
Commenting on the findings, Visa spokesman Chris Clark said: "As online communication tools are evolving at such a rapid rate it's not surprising that consumers are increasingly looking to the internet for travel advice."
Meanwhile, Tesco Personal Finance revealed this week that an increasing number of Brits are planning to book last-minute getaways this summer.
In a survey carried out by the organisation, one in six parents said they would be willing to take a break during school term time if it means securing a cheap holiday deal.
