
The
Canary Islands has agreed to partially finance a new Hollywood film in the hopes of boosting tourism to the Spanish region.
According to the Daily Mail, the Canaries will be the setting of the Branko Lustig-produced film Papillon, a re-make of the 1973 movie of the same name.
He commented that the streets and people of the Canary Islands will feature in the updated movie.
The original Papillon was directed by Franklin J Schaffner and starred Steve McQueen - who won a Golden Globe for his performance - and Dustin Hoffman. It won the gong for Best Original Dramatic Score at the 1974 Academy Awards.
Elsewhere in Spain, the Daily Mail reports that the new film Knight and Day, starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, is tipped to boost tourism to destinations such as Seville and the country's other southern cities.
The film will feature scenes which may inspire tourists to take a trip to Spain, including the running of the bulls in Cadiz and picturesque shots of Seville.
