Cost-effective carbon reduction measures should apply to UK flights, including those to the
Canary Islands, according to a report from the House of Commons Transport Committee.
The report, published yesterday (December 7th), stated that aviation and climate change are global in nature and therefore worldwide solutions are the only real response to the problem of global warming.
However, the report added that the aviation industry should not be demonised or assigned symbolic influence beyond its impact.
Quentin Browell, a spokesperson for the International Air Transport Association, said: "Climate change is high on the agenda."
The report also stated that the government is now looking forward to the creation of a high-speed rail network that will enhance rail links with the airports, as well as maximising the economic benefits of air travel.
