A disabled yachtsman, who set sail on an Atlantic crossing from
Lanzarote, has spent Christmas at sea.
Geoff Holt, from Southampton, is hoping to be given the accolade of being the first quadriplegic sailor to cross the Atlantic after beginning his adventure on December 10th in the
Canary Islands.
Initially, the yachtsman was hoping to complete his mission in 17 days, but after being delayed due to engine problems he now expects to arrive at his final destination in the British Virgin Islands on January 5th.
Mr Holt told the BBC that he expected spending Christmas at sea away from his family and friends to be tough.
"But I've got a great crew so we should have a roast chicken dinner, open our presents and maybe have a little drink or two," he added.
The yachtsman wrote on his blog on Boxing Day (December 26th) that although Christmas was somewhat "unorthodox", it made him realise how lucky he was to be living his dream.
