Families travelling to popular hotspots such as
Tenerife and
Lanzarote have been offered some advice on how to make the most of their breaks.
According to holiday add-on firm Essential Travel, there are plenty of steps travellers can take to ensure they get their trip off to a good start.
Opting for the first flight of the day when booking is advisable as "delays will get worse as the day goes on", the company notes.
Those flying with young children may also wish to avoid peak times and travel on a Tuesday or Wednesday when the airport is less busy.
Once families reach their destination, Essential Travel recommends they stick to regular meal times.
"If you allow kids to get hungry, their tempers will fray - and so will yours," the firm added.
Meanwhile, Nikki Demaid, a childcare manager with activity specialist Mark Warner, said the key to travelling with youngsters is to ensure they are kept occupied at all times.
