One of the main reasons why the
Canary Islands are such a popular destination at this time of year is because people want to escape the British weather, according to one travel expert.
Sean Tipton, spokesperson for ABTA, said that one of the best holiday destinations to get a spot of guaranteed winter sun is the Canary Islands.
He went on to give advice for those who are travelling abroad over the festive season, adding that holidaymakers need to leave plenty of extra time for airport check-in as this is one of the busiest times of the year.
Mr Tipton stated: "You are talking about up to three million people going abroad over new year, it's going to be a really busy time."
Yesterday (December 9th) easyJet revealed that the company expects to fly a record-breaking 900,000 people from the UK to their travel destination over the Christmas period.
