It has been reported that the authorities in Lanzarote were asking for an apology for the presstigious newspaper the Financial Times, for claiming that Lanzarote was under investigation from Unesco and could lose its World Biosphere Reserve status.
A formal protest was being prepared for the London paper and for the British Embassy in Madrid under what they say are totally unfounded allegations which is causing damage to the island's image. The newspaper reported that the Lanzarote's biosphere was under review due to hotel developers' breach of local planning rules.
