While the island of
Lanzarote may mostly be known for its tropical climate and stunning array of beaches, AirFlights advises that it also may be of interest to budding historians.
"As well as the great weather, the island also has a fascinating history," the site recently stated.
The site also advised that one famous artist, who was a resident of the island until his death in 1992, had a great deal of influence in shaping the architecture and general appearance of the island.
Cesar Manrique, the artist in question, influenced the architecture of Lanzarote by having the vast majority of buildings painted white in order to contrast with the volcanic black landscape that the island is so famed for.
In addition to this, because of the artist's influence there is only one building on the whole island which is over six storeys high.
The Manrique website states that it is impossible to imagine Lanzarote as it is today without the influence of the famed artist who aimed to make the island "one of the most beautiful places on the planet".
