People holidaying in locations such as
Lanzarote should include an allowance for tips in their holiday budget, according to one money expert.
Richard Cohen, finance expert for the Holiday Extras Expert Panel, advises that carrying smaller denominations of coins and notes will make tipping easier so that tourists do not need to be unnecessarily generous.
He also suggests that it is important to respect local customs in terms of how much and when it is appropriate to tip, as in some countries it is considered an insult.
Mr Cohen's comments come in response to recent research from Holiday Extras, which revealed that almost half of British travellers feel uncomfortable leaving a tip while on holiday.
He went on to add: "In some parts of the world service staff rely on tips to earn a living and staff may take offence if you don't."
According to Trip Advisor, the correct etiquette when visiting all areas of Spain - including islands such as Lanzarote - is to leave a five to ten per cent tip for services.
