Inexpensive flights to holiday destinations such as
Lanzarote could be set to stay, according to one airline representative.
David Henderson, spokesperson for the Association of European Airlines, says that holidaymakers have got used to the price of flights being much lower than they were previously.
"We don't think the airlines will be able to put their fares back to where they were", he states.
Mr Henderson advises that air fares have been very heavily discounted over the past year, meaning that the average passenger is paying 15 per cent less than they would have paid for the same flight a year ago.
According to a recent statement from ITB Berlin, many holidaymakers are less willing to make a firm decision about their travel intentions in 2010 - which could account for the recent rise in popularity of last-minute deals.
However, the research also reveals that 68 per cent of those questioned intend to travel as often as they did in 2009.
