Many holidaymakers who visit destinations such as the
Canary Islands are cutting down on the traditional two-week holiday and opting for ten-day breaks instead, according to recent statistics.
Thomson and First Choice have found that demand for ten and 11-night trips were up by 64 per cent in summer 2009.
Sally Kirby, travel specialist at Black Tomato, believes that many people take holidays of this length in order to cut down on the amount of time they have to take off work.
She says that going on a ten-day trip to a destination such as
Lanzarote can mean taking just five or six days of annual leave.
Thomson and First Choice predict that this trend is set to continue into 2010, with many holidaymakers believing that a 14-day break is out of their budget or too long a period to take off work.
According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of people taking holidays abroad decreased by a year-on-year figure of 9.6 million in the 12-month period up until September 2009.
