Lanzarote could feel like they've stepped onto a movie set as one of the island's beaches is the location for a film that was nominated for a prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
The New York Times describes Famara Beach, the setting of the film Broken Embraces which stars Penelope Cruz, as "eerily beautiful" and "otherworldly".
According to the paper, it is expected that the destination will begin appearing on the hot lists of various travel magazines next year.
In an interview with the Guardian, film-maker Pedro Almodovar said that he took a picture of the beach a decade ago and when he got his photos developed he could make out a couple embracing on the sand.
This image eventually inspired the story of Broken Embraces.
Mr Almodovar also told the publication that he visited Lanzarote shortly after his mother had died and the reds, greens and browns of the island seemed to soothe him.
