Known as "Des Guell a Lluc a peu", this is a night-time walk which is held every year in Mallorca on the first Saturday of August [6 August 2011], and is between Palma de Mallorca and Lluc and passes through the Tramuntana Sierra and places such as Marratxi, Santa Maria del Cami, Consell, Binissalem and Lloseta.
The history of this walk dates back to 1974 when a group of friends who has gathered at the "Guell Bar" in Palma, decided to clim to Lluc to honour the Virgin of Lluc. During the first years, not too many people participated in the event, but in 1980 when Sa Nostra became interested in the project the walk became more and more popular.
Currently, thousands of people gather together at the Guell Plaza to undertake the walk the 47km to Lluc together, with the walkers reaching Lluc towards dawn. Half the route is on the flat and the other half gradually gets steeper with the steepest part towards the end near the Lluc Monastery. Participants from all over Mallorca take part as well as from Spain and abroad - truly a unique experience which you will only feel when you reach Lluc !! Last year around 8,000 people took part with 5,000 reaching the end. You will be able to get back to Palma via train.
The event starts at 21:00 at the Guell Plaza and is free to participants.
