Michael Douglas, Hollywood actor, who has had a home in the lovely rural resort of Valldemossa for over 20 years, is actively promoting the island of Mallorca to clasify the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range as a World Heritage Site with UNESCO [United Nations Educations, Scientific and Cultural Organisation].
The Serra de Tramuntana is a rugged mountain range which runs along the northwest coast. The highest peaks are concentrated in the central mountain range, with the highest being Puig Major at 1445m. The main road [the Ma10] starts at Andratx and runs roughly parallel to the coast to Pollensa. It's a stunning scenic drive and popular cycling route, especially in the spring when the mountains are splashed with the bright colours of spring blooms.
Michael has already added his signature to the petition which has been signed by around 11,500 local people and an additional 8,600 signatures from the social networking site - Facebook.
