If you are on your Menorca Holidays around the 27-29 August 2010, then head for San Lluis in the south-east of Menorca [approximately 5km south of the capital - Mahon], and you will find the town is full of people for their annual festival.
On the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning are held spectacular jaleo shows, when riders dressed in tails encourage their horses to rear up on their hind legs among the crowds.
The jaleo is one of several skills practised by the riders of the island. Over 50 riders compete for the sought-after titles of caixer senyor, caixer pagesos and caixer menestral.
The festival is dedicted to Sant Louix IX, the town's patron, and features an opening ceremony, horse races, concerts and fireworks.
