The festive season may be over in the UK, but in the
Canary Islands things are only just getting started.
Taking place from February 3rd to February 28th, the
Las Palmas Carnival in
Gran Canaria is the island's biggest event and a must-see for anyone taking a holiday there next month.
The carnival features beauty pageants, musical performances and parades, as well as the famous Gala Gran Dama, or Drag Queen Day.
According to WhatsonWhen, the theme for this year's drag event is 'pirates' and competition is said to be fierce.
A number of concerts will also be taking place, with past performers including Gloria Gaynor and Grace Jones.
Another event taking place next month is the
Puerto de la Cruz Festival in
Tenerife, which gets underway on February 15th.
