Britain's ambassador to Spain claimed he is "enjoying Canarian culture" during an official visit to
Tenerife.
Giles Paxman took up the role on October 19th after spending four years as British ambassador to Mexico.
He is currently on his first tour of the
Canary Islands and spent yesterday evening at an official function in
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, reports Island Connections.
The website described how he unveiled a plaque with Cabildo president Ricardo Melchior at the consular offices in Plaza Weyler, before attending a cocktail reception at the casino.
Upon taking up the position in October he said: "I want to build on this common heritage, to make our bilateral relationship even stronger and to make our influence felt in the world."
Visitors planning their luxury Canary Island holidays will be interested to hear that there is a traditional festival set to take place on November 29th called the Fiesta de San Andres.
From now until the event there will be typical Canarian food and wine on offer in
Puerto de la Cruz.
