The average British traveller rises an hour and 45 minutes earlier when on holiday in order to claim a sun lounger by the pool, it has been revealed.
Research carried out by easyJet revealed that, despite the fact that 71 per cent of people use holidays for rest and relaxation, some wake as early as 5.30am to secure a good sunbathing spot.
Paul Simmons, a spokesman for the airline, said it is shocking the lengths some people will go to.
Meanwhile, senior psychologist Dr David Holmes said holidaymakers could save time by devising a system with their fellow travellers.
"Better to relax and get to know your fellow sun lovers by the pool, initially sharing the burden of reserving loungers between three of you, so you only get up early once in three days," he added.
According to ABTA The Travel Association, an estimated 1.9 million Brits are set to jet off to warmer climes this weekend.
