
Holidaymakers looking for guaranteed sunshine this winter should head to the
Canary Islands, it has been suggested.
According to the Independent, Britons need to "look beyond the Costa del Sol" during the winter months and should consider a trip to the
Canary Islands, where warm weather is guaranteed all year round.
The newspaper describes
Gran Canaria as a 'reliable option', with average daily temperatures of 22C in December.
"The third largest of the
Canary Islands (after
Tenerife and
Fuerteventura) has terrain varied enough to satisfy outdoor-thrill junkies as well as beach lizards, the publication stated.
Situated around 130 miles off the African coast, the island of
Gran Canaria is home to many cultural attractions, such as the Museo Canaria in
Las Palmas and the Casa de Colon, where Christopher Columbus is rumoured to have stayed on his way to America.
