Those looking to soak up some sunshine this spring, with

Writing in the Observer, Annie Bennett said the Canaries are unbeatable for a short-haul holiday and that, as well as beaches, there are plenty of exciting cities for people to explore.

Tenerife can see examples of stunning architecture at the Plaza de Espana in Santa Cruz, which has been revamped in recent years by renowned architects Herzog and de Meuron.
"They have also designed the Tenerife Arts Space which, together with Santiago Calatrava's breathtaking concert hall, has turned Santa Cruz into a showcase of contemporary architecture and created a new dynamism in the city," Ms Bennett noted.
