The number of people taking holidays in the
Canary Islands has remained steady over the last year, it has been revealed.
Figures released by the Canaries Tourist Board show that 7.5 million foreign holidaymakers travelled to islands such as
Lanzarote,
Tenerife and
Gran Canaria in the last year.
Research shows that although visitor numbers dipped by 6.25 per cent in October, the overall number of people travelling to the
Canary Islands is up by 0.23 per cent so far this year, compared to 2007, News In the Sun reports.
A spokesman for the tourist board suggested that despite the credit crunch, destinations such as the
Canary Islands, which represent good value for money, are holding up well.
Speaking last week, Ignacio Vasallo, director of the Spanish Tourist Office, said the islands would always have a "special place in the hearts of British holidaymakers".
