British holidaymakers are the main target for the
Canary Islands as businesses and organisations gear up for a new drive to attract visitors.
Already, an advertising campaign is underway in the UK, reminding viewers of the qualities that can be found just a short flight away.
A number of travel companies are working with tourism bodies on the islands to drive the programme, with billions of pounds set to be spent,
Tenerife News reports.
To help keep the islands competitive, Canaries president Paulino Rivero is calling upon the Spanish government to reduce airport charges and keep them level across all seven islands.
This week, one British newspaper described Tenerife as a potential rival to Florida as a family holiday favourite.
Attractions such as the new Siam Park water park make the Canary island a place worth visiting for anybody with children or teenagers, the News of the World suggested.
