The
Canary Islands have been presented with a prize during a top travel fair in London, emphasising the quality of the region as a holiday destination.
Rita Martin, regional tourism minister for the Canary Islands, told Island Connections that the award for best stand at the World Travel Market "vindicates" the decision to focus on four different aspects of what the isles have to offer.
She aimed to attract people going on luxury holidays by focusing on the volcanic experiences in the region, the family welcome, water sports and the "wellness delight".
For example, travellers looking to enjoy a water sports adventure can visit Siam Park near
Playa de las Americas on
Tenerife.
Ms Martin told the publication: "We are a mature destination that has shown it can innovate when necessary to keep its place on the international market."
Chairman of the World Travel Market Fiona Jeffery highlighted the importance of the event in bringing together the travel industry.
